The eviction at Dale Farm is set to start on Monday the 17th of October. We are calling on people to act as legal observers/human rights monitors and some of us will be engaging in civil disobedience to prevent homes from being bulldozed. The bailiffs employed to demolish homes, Constant & Co. call themselves “gypsy specialists” and have a history of brutal and illegal behaviour including the cruel Twin Oaks eviction in 2004.
The eviction, which will cost an estimated 19.2 million pounds, would involve smashing chalets and mobile-homes, and physically forcing up to 90 families, including children, the elderly and infirm, to leave the district, impoverished and with nowhere legally to live.

I am very confused by all of this.
We are talking about Basildon with its history of plotlands are we?
We are talking about a change of use from brownfield scrapyard to residential – nothing to do with greenbelt – aren’t we?
Are there not compromises available by using holiday lets, or as at the milennium wheel, temporary permissions?
Were any of the properties built over night and had a fire going in them by dawn to use existing law?

I have read nothing so far to suggest that they were all linked together. However, as the ‘traveller’ community is so close it would have been surprising, to say the least, if there hadn’t been some linking going on including swapping the odd slave. You are quite right, the raids were the result of a group of criminals who all happened to be ‘travellers’ which is something you omitted. The systematic and callous method of enslaving the people really takes my breath away and yet you want me to have sympathy for these people. Well, I do have sympathy with these people as long as they stay within the law and don’t behave anti-socially.
again, i never said “gypsy/travellers” is racist. the comment about the criminals in housing estates was just to emphasise that you cannot tar everyone with the same brush. you cannot say that all gypsys are dirty slave traders. I just think that the council should be clever about this and figure out a way to invest in the site, thereby forcing everyone to pay into the system. council-run sites work very well and every plot pays the relevant taxes and fees.
I just had a speeding ticket and will get 3 points on my licence. Thanks to the inspiration of the “travellers” at Dale Farm I have dreamt up a new ethnic group definition (the brilliant UN lets us self define) where our cultural traditions mean we have to drive faster than the speed limit. I think you’ll find that if Basildon council were to have a local referendum about the action they were taking against the Dale Farm people the vote would be pretty much in the council’s favour. In fact, were you to take it to a national vote on the action to be taken against illegal campsites by travellers I think the vote would be overwhelmingly in favour of removal, by force if necessary.

The police arrived at Leighton Buzzard with the press in tow – odd. The police have been investigating the site since 2008 but failed to take any action until now. I would add that this is a site with Irish Travellers and the press have emphasised this point. Odd that these arrests coincide with the evicition at Dale Farm which also involves Irish Travellers. Racism in the first degree. I hope that those of you who have posted derogatory comments do not hold jobs with positions of power.
Even if the arrests in Leighton Buzzard are lawful (only time will tell) it does not mean that residents of Dale Farm are guilty of similar offences. Many of the people posting comments on here are sad individuals who are bullies.

There are obviously some bad stories being propagated to try to justify the Human rights abuse planned by Basildon council and supported by the CONDEM British state. Question – I’m a 2nd Year Law Student – it appears that all landowners are obliged in law to tidy eyesores – after the eviction, this group will therefore have to clean the site up, as they own it. If they do not do so , the Council can do it themselves and send them the bill – which is going to be massive. I cannot fathom why this group do not appreciate this – many traveller and gypsy groups have left countless hundreds of landowners across the country with a massive clean up bill each time they’ve been moved off – are they effectively ‘crapping in their own pot’?
Problem with most Human Rights practitioners is they know absolutely everything about the HRA, but sod all about the minute details of domestic legislation – the group has been very poorly advised on this one.
Seems some will have to sell off one of their many ‘second homes’ to pay the interest off on the massive clean up by the looks of things….
If you are planning a career in the law I would suggest that you refrain from running down Human Rights lawyers or any lawyers for that matter. As a second year law student you should know that all lawyers study compulsory subjects. Lawyers specialise after qualifcation not before.

People who make racist comments here and elsewhere will be reported to the Essex Police as I pay my taxes and work hard to promote the real UK and the real Essex. This threatened eviction has cost my business a lot of money as the good name of the UK is harmed by the apparrent disregard of the Human rights of travellers. I am filing reports against all who post racist comments and I am determined to work with the Essex Police to hold Basildon council to account as well. Maybe some people have different opinions to me, but the UNITED NATIONS is the world body I am with and the world is judging the UK today. I am from Essex, born less than 10 miles from Dale Farm, so I know the REAL Essex and it is not racist at all. Everyone is welcome in Essex.

Many people in Essex are also filing reports to the Police – about trespass, criminal damage, and of course asking for fixed penalties for the littering offenses you’ll commit unless you clear that site up after the eviction etc etc – besides which, do you think your complaint will get any interest at all – from someone like yourself who has spent months and months inciting rabid violence against people charged with a duty to carry out a LAWFUL eviction..you were at it on Saturday, stirring up loads of youngsters to do it….totally above the law yourselves ……having just looked at this site, it is just an ego wank for someone who’s personal life is a complete and total void..maybe a lower second degree in I.T. you can’t get a job with – dross , really.

Many of the dale farm scabs are connected to homes in Rathkeale, a town in the Republic of Ireland which is often regarded as a spiritual home for travellers. I am just telling it as it is. In Germany the UK is definately seen as a Human rights abusing country. Maybe you don’t see it as I do but then you are not here in Germany promoting the UK and trying your best to present the UK as OK and save UK jobs, save UK business and save the UK from CONDEMNATION. We ought to think a bit more about our repuataion. Of course Germany is not peerfect, but they are our customers, and as I always say, and ANY business person says “The customer is always right” So say what you like mate, because I will not be employing people like you since you would offend my customers ! Reality is that it will cost us billions in lost exports to Germany, only the most economically powerful nation in Europe now, so we ought, really OUGHT to care what the rest of the world and our customers think, as UK jobs are on the line here. I note the comments. We live in a corrupt country and planning rules are broken all the time. My own mother has faulty deeds as a result of someone else breaching planning rules. Her local Council refuse to co-operate preferring to use the four year rule. She has contacted several Government Ministers who have also refused to help or assist her. In fact the list is endless.
I have today read an article in which David Cameron said “Everyone in this country has to obey the law, including the law about planning permission”. I would suggest that David Cameron retracts his stupid, ill informed statement without delay.
The individuals at Dale Farm are being used as scapegoats. I am aware that large supermerkets regularly make financial contributions to the local community in order to secure planning permission for new devlopments. Most members of the public would regard this has legalised bribery. Our Councils accept this money and consequently grant planning permission. I for one would like to know what else our Councils accept. Furthermore, I would like to know what plans are proposed for Dale Farm should the evicitions be successful?
This sad evicition is costing this Country millions of pounds. Our Ministers are constantly telling us that our Country is in the red. Where is this money coming from – the tax payer again. These millions could have been used to reduce our deficit or purchase hospital equipment and drugs for the dying. Perhaps the Government could arrange for the costs to be deducted from the pensions of our sponging civil service employees who constantly strike and freeload from the tax payer. Better still deduct the same from the huge salaries of the employees at the Council who authorised this appalling waste of the tax payers money.
I and my family wish the residents at Dale Farm all the best and I hope you find a way to overturn the eviction. You are scapegoats and I am appalled by the actions of my own country. Unfortunately, we are closer to dictatorship than democracy. I would add that these issues would have been ignored if you had attended Eton and joined the exclusive Oxford Bullingdon Club!

Let’s look at this another way. What choice do people who suddenly find these caravan dwellers at the bottom of their garden have. They have to put up with the travelers with no option of moving (well certainly not immediately nor without losing money). They have rights as well and as they’re law abiding citizens (I should imagine for the most part) their rights come first in my book before people who are breaking the law.

The truth is that the threatened eviction of Dale Farm is an act of Ethnic cleansing as has been
defined by the United nations. Hitler did evict gypsies and travellers and Hitler also deported
immigrants and used populist racism to rise to power. This is exactly what my German friends
tell me they see in the UK on their televisions and that is why our sales of travel to the UK are
DOWN. My business and all my affiliated businesses are losing money thanks to the policies
of the CONDEM not properly elected government. David Cameron is a massive risk to UK firms
and his fellow Tories at Basildon council are jeopardising UK jobs. We cannot sell maldon Sea Salt
if Essex is seen as a NAZI county and we cannot expect German language tourists in Bournemouth

The truth is that abroad in Germany people DO compare the UK now with NAZI Germany and this is very bad for UK business people like me. How can we sell our UK exports and attract paying tourists to the UK when they can clearly see the UK is practising ethnic cleansing. We have got massive unemployment and now the horrifying scens of the riots in the UK have already put off many visitors and much investment is cancelled. First of all, The council are actually negligent from the off set.. The council should have put measures and conditions in place to be agreed upon Before the Land was sold to your community, with a rolling planning program for each new build..
This can still be achieved by assessing each dwelling on its merit of stability and quality and rectified if the property is deemed unsafe for the occupant..

This whole thing is an awful situation for both sides, but I dont see how you can bend the rules for some folk and then expect everyone else to toe the line. Surely if travelers can buy land that has not been zoned for building and then build, everyone can, and I cant see that working out to well.

Gavin, I think that is a good idea. Why not let people live the lifestyle they want and allow them the freedom to be who they want to be. How much does a new home cost to buy or to rent. How much labour is needed to amass enough cash to buy or rent property when there is an alternative? The council should never have sold the land to the travellers, they knew what it would be used for and knew from the beginning that permission would not be granted. So it is the councils fault! Now they want to spend millions of your hard earned taxes on evicting people, who will then have no choice but pull up on your school fields and car parks (where would you rather they live). People are under the illusion that the land will be turned into green rolling hills, when the eviction happens. It will be a wasteland, a mound of mud and debris, more of an eyesore than any site. At the very least, an alternative site should have been offered by the council, who of course would get tax ( a lot of travellers do pay rent and council tax )

This is disgraceful. I don’t buy the green belt argument. This is ethnic cleansing by the local council. I live in Scotland where our travellers are treated with disrespect by many in the community. Why should people be forced to live a settled life. No council or government should be allowed to destroy a culture, break up communities and cause distress to people who value what they have. As a Romani Gypsy myself I know of the testimonies of the older generation of travellers that spoke of what Germany did to the Gypsies in the 27 nations the Reich occupied. In most cases the Gypsies were treated far, far worse than the Jews. Jews were sterilized in the war, so was Gypsies, Gypsies are still being forcefully sterilized 70 years later, nothing has changed. It has to be said, Britian, and quite a few of the majority English are becoming the way Germany itself became prior to the Holocaust.

I sent an email to the Green MP in Parliament and to Justice for Travellers and other organisations stating that Hundreds of Marina illegal setlers throughout the Country will be given permission to stay in there wooden huts,caravans etc etc all year round without planning permission because Huntingdon County Council has given permission to people in Huntingdon to stay in their properties without planning permission.It was repoted in the Local Hunts Post Newspaper after the newly elected Conservative Leader of Huntingdon County Council gave his permission! I would argue that this is a legal PRESIDENT even though i am not a Lawyer and could be used to stop Planning Permission evictions? Please investigate and reply urgently. Perhaps Gratton could act on this?

When I adopted my Romany (Gypsy) daughter, I knew that I was also adopting a culture. Each summer we spend a month with her birth family in Romania and we get the amazing opportunity of becoming integrated within the Romany community.I also witness the intense hatred and persecution which exists in Europe against the Romany; but this isn’t a new phenomenom. I have spent a great deal of time researching the history of the Romany people, and I am appalled by how poorly the Romanies have been treated. They have been enslaved, and murdered simply because they are Romany; yet they are typically a peaceful people who never initiate wars and they rarely engage in crimes which are anything more than petty crimes.
They have been and continue to be the scapegoat for societies problems. Dale Farm is not to be considered an isolated incident; but rather just one more indicator of the world’s unwillingness to protect its own citizens (the Romanies) against actions which would not be tolerated were it any other group.
My daughter and I are hoping to be able to be part of this civil disobedience at Dale Farms. Not only do we hope to help stop this eviction, but we believe that this is an excellent opportunity to help educate people about this amazing culture which has survived so much persecution for hundreds of years.
Its not about them and us, its us us us us all of us who will suffer under this dictatorship, stand together, we are all human beings, we should all have shelter food and clean water as standard. We are all tribal people of this earth, whether or not we live in a house pay council tax or live on the land. Isn’t the government’s action against Dale Farm, also against all that UN Agenda 21 stands for – and which planning guidelines follow?
If the Local Authority don’t approve of the buildings currently constructed at Dale Farm, what would they prefer – where?
According to the ‘communities right to build’, no planning consent would be needed to build ‘sustainable’/affordable ‘community’ housing – which appears to be just what Dale Farm Housing Association offers its members.
So what’s about to happen when finally get the communities’ right to build? And where can we all start building?
According to what’s been approved by local authorities across the UK, for that to happen on a green field site, the buildings would have to be low-to-zero impact .
If Tipi Alley in Wales can get planning permission after 15 years of disputes, and Tony Trench’s ‘Roundhouse’ was approved after 10 years in existence, Dale Farm will hopefully win their day yet!

Why can’t they go to the European court of human rights, if prisoners can do it to get the vote after all this is a human rights issue.You get people going on about ethnic cleansing abroad but in the same breath they will say they don’t like gypsies.

If somebods ‘dont want an eyesore on their doorsteps’, then they should go into discussions as to how to improve the situation, not just try to shove ‘the problem’ elsewhere. These are people, families and their homes we are talking about.
Should laws exist to control permissions to erect buildings? Yes.
Should the 40% of the residents who own the land and have legal planning permission be aloud to stay? Yes, of course.
Should the clan that purchased land knowingly without planning permission and built on the land anyway be allowed to stay (presumably hoping to secure permission over years of legal battles at a huge cost to the tax payer, which I suspect is how the legal 40% was obtained.)? No.
Do the majority of the residents at Dale Farm pay taxes? Very, very unlikely. I tell you what, let me work that extra bit harder and I’ll pay that little bit more tax on your behalf to protect chosen ‘Travelling’ lifestyle. Planning on travelling again soon or are you going to hang around for another 15 years?

The evictions at Hovefield are being carried out without a court order.
Basildon Council is simply using – or misusing – its powers under the
Town and Country Planning Act.
It is us who have challenged Basildon through a judicial review. And
first time around have lost in the Court of Appeal, which said Basildon
could legally evict if the Council met all its duties towards the homeless under Housing Act. Did it? No.
Only in Matilda Boswell’s case have lawyers been able to document that
the BDC has not completed a homeless application before the Notice to
quit by 31 August was served on her.
Her application to have a judicial review – another important test – will
be heart in the High Court on 24 Sept. All who can are asked to attend
this hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand and a rally
outside.
What the Hovefields evictions have shown is that there is nowhere for
evicted families to go to where they won’t again face eviction. Twice some
of those evicted sought refuge on land belonging to the Homes and
Communities Agency, the government quango which is offering locations
for Traveller caravan parks to the BDC.
On both occasions, Essex police took swift and merciless action under
s61 of the Criminal Justice Act 1994 – the piece of legislation which has
made it almost impossible to continue the travelling way of life in England.
The police can move on any group where there are more than five
vehicles – on receiving a request from the landowner.
At Gardiners Way (on 9 Sept) police were called and themselves contacted
the HCA, then gave families 30 minutes to leave or face empounding of their
caravans and towing vehicles under s61. Having been evicted from their own
land, and moved again from a car-park at Gardiners Grove, which forced them
to drive all night with only a two-hour stop at a service station, they moved
again too exhausted to face more police harassment.
Police ignored heated requests to carry out their duty to inquire into the welfare of those they intended to evict. This alone made the action, done with
the authority of Chief Insp Schoefield, illegal. One young woman was pregnant,
there was a boy with learning difficulties and several small children who had already gone through the trauma of seeing their homes bulldozed.

I am from Essex and I am deeply ashamed of the way Dale farm travellers are being treated. Of course it is their own land and of course they have a right to stay there. The same is true of travellers everywhere. I am so sorry to hear so much racist hatred from the other British people, it makes me really sad. The human rights of the travellers is the top priority here. Living in a caravan is not even building something so there is no way it contravenes planning law. The whole thing is simply NAZI racism by Basildon council and other councils and this CONDEM government. I am deeply ashamed to be British and deeply ashamed that you are having this trouble. I have written to the Olympic committee and my politicians complaining about this dispicable treatment you are suffering. If there is an eviction the UK will be censured at the United Nations and the whole country will suffer as other nations, decent nations, simply ignore the UK. This is the last chance for the eviction to be called off, the travellers compensated, planning permission granted and everyone to say sorry to you. May God bless you all and may GOOD prevail over EVIL and the only eviction will be David Cameron evicted from 10 Downing street becuase nobody really voted for this government, they lied their way in, and David cameron has another few homes to goto so he´ll not be put out on the street when he has to go.
